3xtreme LAN Sixteen Competitions  [ Comments (26) ] Created By: dave 10:23 pm, 20/11/2008
There will be three official competitions this time around, as there always is.

5v5 Counter-Strike:Source
5v5 Team Fortress 2
Call of Duty 5

Registration will be via EMS, the 3xtreme LAN intranet, as soon as doors open up until the competitions are due to start.

CS:S will kick things off at 1pm sharp, be sure to arrive in time and have your Steam client fully updated before leaving for the LAN.

As always flexibility is the name of the game, any number of things can affect timings.

Final player limit change  [ Comments (23) ] Created By: chewy 2:46 pm, 17/11/2008
We have now made arrangements which will allow us to bump the player limit up a bit to 200.
This should hopefully make things a little less squishy and greatly shorten the waiting list.

The list will be re-sorted such that unconfirmed players will be moved down the list on Thursday evening.

Player limit change  [ Comments (44) ] Created By: chewy 11:17 am, 10/11/2008
Now that registrations have been open for a few weeks we now have a good idea of how many people are interested in attending the next event, as a result we have decided to set the event size to a single hall or a player limit of around 150.
To help us lay out the hall and make sure you are sitting with the people you want to sit with, please use the seat booking system to create a group with your mates so that we can seat you together.

3xtreme LAN 13 Counter Strike: Source Recordings  [ Comments (9) ] Created By: dave 11:27 pm, 2/12/2006
The first of the recordings of the AIE Counter Strike: Source competition have been uploaded and are available from the competitions page. More will be uploaded this evening and in the next couple of days.

To view these recordings, unzip the file into the following directory:

\Steam\SteamApps\*username*\counter-strike source\cstrike

Then enter into the console:

playdemo 'filename'

Unfortunatly a few recordings have gone missing, I'm currently digging around for them and hopefully they'll turn up. But as it stands at the moment:

Round2: online++ vs. syNapse (de_nuke) is unavailable.
Round4: xtr1p vs. online++ (de_inferno) is missing the first half.
Round4: syNapse vs. s6ence (de_inferno) seems to be missing the last round of the first half.

It would be election day, this Saturday
and so it would seem to be a good idea to go vote before you come to the LAN...
the fines can be quite annoying.

3xtreme LAN Twelve this weekend!  [ Comments (25) ] Created By: chewy 8:41 am, 21/9/2006
This weekend get ready for a weekend of extreme gaming, 3xtreme LAN Twelve is finally upon us.

Competition registrations will be running from the start of the event until the start of each competition.

Remember to update steam and all other games before the event. If possible double check on Saturday morning to be sure no new patches have been released.

Those who are on the waiting list and those who haven’t registered; if you come after 12 noon on Saturday we will endeavour to find you a table. There should be enough room such that a few extras can fit so if you wish you can probably bring a friend too.

3xtreme BBQ!  [ Comments (17) ] Created By: dave 7:24 pm, 14/9/2006
This Sunday, the 17th, shall host a BBQ of 3xtreme proportions! We invite one and all from the 3xtreme community to head down to Jells Park, starting 12pm (that’s mid day folks), for drinks, good times and lots of meat.

The bureau is reporting a sunny day, with a top temperature of 21 degrees, fine weather for some park cricket, soccer, or just throwing around a miniature UFO. We do, however, need some generous souls to provide the equipment for the day, if you’re able to help in this department, I’m sure we can arrange some meat and drinks for your kindness.

Remember folks, that this is next to a totally unorganized affair, so bring what food and drink you think you’ll need for the day, might be a good idea to get talking with a group of people and do a group buy. By all means, bring anyone and everyone along, even if they’re not previously associated with 3xtreme (and see if you can get them along to 3xtremeLAN 12…)

Myself and the rest of the 3xtreme crew are looking forward to an enjoyable day in the sun and I throw down the challenge to face the admin’s elite park cricket skillz.

3xtreme LAN Eleven this weekend  [ Comments (24) ] Created By: chewy 11:41 pm, 5/7/2006
With this weekend’s event rapidly approaching, it is about time for an update; preparations are going well and this event will quite possibly have our greatest turnout ever.

Firstly, due to the overwhelming response from registrations we have made room for additional players and as such the player limit has been raised to 300. To ensure that seats are allocated in a fair manner, the check-in policy is as follows.
Before 12 noon on the Saturday we will only be admitting people who are within the player limit, no one on the waiting list will be admitted during this time. After this time, people on the waiting list will be admitted, with preference going to those required in a clan for competition and people in seat bookings.

Seat bookings are going well, with a large number of groups registering. Seat group teams seem to be fairly balanced so we should be able to seat everyone on the side of their choice. On the morning of the event, seat bookings are held until 12 noon on the Saturday, at which time they are forfeited unless we are contacted and informed that group members will be arriving late. You can inform us ahead of time or if at least one member of the group will be coming early, they can inform us. If check-ins are still in full swing at noon, we will hold the bookings longer. Please also note that empty seat groups or groups with 1 member will be removed.

Now, on to the games; we will be running 4 competitions this weekend in addition to several public servers and a multitude of large organised games to ensure there is never a dull moment. Public servers will be run for Counter Strike: Source, Battlefield 2, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Quake 3 amongst others. The large organised games which will run during the event will be decided based on a poll conducted via the intranet system so we run games that you want to play.

Competition registrations will open at 10AM, when the event opens, for all competitions and will continue until 30 minutes before the competition in question starts, by this time all players and teams wishing to compete must have completed registration and if necessary paid the entry fee. The main prize ceremony will be conducted at 3AM on Sunday morning.
The Counter Strike: Source competition will run first at 2PM on Saturday, followed by Unreal Tournament 2004 at 6PM and Battlefield 2 at 9PM. These competitions have an entry fee of $10 for the first and $5 for each competition after that per person and the prizes will be cash. There will also be a pool competition held on Sunday.

Before attending the event this weekend, we advise all attendees to update all their games that they intend to play at the event, particularly games with steam based updating. With steam it is also advisable that you boot your computer up on the Saturday morning and make sure no updates have come out during the night.

There will be a dedicated multimedia area in the venue offering projectors for movies and console games. We will provide some consoles and games; however you are invited to bring your own consoles if you wish to guarantee that a specific game and console are available. You will need to be able to take care of your console.

Any players wishing to bring their own game servers for the event will be required to place these machines in the organiser area and will be connected onto a switch dedicated to servers for optimal performance.

3xtreme LAN confirmations are open!  [ Comments (20) ] Created By: rocket 6:43 pm, 25/6/2006
Hi everyone,

If you're planning to go to 3xtreme LAN, please make sure you confirm. This tells us you'll be there for sure. It allows us to arrange seats in the hall so there'll be one available for you!

You can confirm your registration for 3xtreme LAN 11 at the register page:

http://www.extremelan.net/index.php?page=register

You should confirm as soon as you're sure you'll be going. Confirming also gives you access to the seat booking system, so you can book yourself a seat with your friends!

And on another note, if you want to arrange special circumstances (eg. you can't get to the LAN until Saturday afternoon) you will need to get in contact with us. I (Chris) am available on my mobile, 0422 299 750, at all reasonable hours.

For everyone who's already confirmed - thanks! We'll see you at the LAN!!

For everyone that has yet to register, do yourself a favour and come and see our great LAN. If just visit this time it's free, but you will definitely have more fun if you bring your PC and play games!!

You can register to come to the LAN at the register page:

3xtreme LAN Eleven update  [ Comments (14) ] Created By: chewy 6:12 pm, 14/6/2006
Confirmations and seat bookings open this Saturday the 17th of June at midday. In order to attend the event you must confirm your registration, once confirmed you are able to perform seat bookings.

The seat booking system works on the basis of groups. The leader of your group should register a new seat booking group and then distribute the join password amongst your group so other members can join the seating group. Upon seat bookings closing on the 6th of July, the booking administrator will allocate your group the correct number of seats.

This event the theme is Construction vs. Underground and as such your seating group leader has the option to elect which team your group would prefer to be in; the Construction team will be in the side of the hall closest to the large hanger doors.

The bookings page will display which team each group has elected, so if your clan have a nemesis clan you can elect to be on the other team so you can battle with them in the team based activities. If too many people want to be on one team, obviously we will be unable to allocate everyone to that team as we will run out of room.

Finally, tomorrow, the 15th of June, 2006, marks 4 years since our first event. I would like to thank Chris A, Isaac, Adlai, Josh, Chris B, Robert, Manny, Jeff, Jon, Dave and offcourse all the gamers who come to our events and those who have helped out over the years for helping make 3xtreme what it is today.

Thankyou.

http://www.extremelan.net/misc/el11-ubisoft-ghostrecon.jpg

In case you can't see, there's 5 copies of the full game as well as several hundred demo DVDs in there. There should be enough to give one to everyone - so you can definitely bet on us making a shot at the record for:

"The most people simultaneously playing Ghost Recon at one LAN"!!!

A big thanks to Ubisoft for providing this genuinely amazing prize pack, and also to Cyberslam who are responsible for you having the chance to win it!

If you want to win a copy of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, you'd better head over to the http://extremelan.net/index.php?page=register Register Page now!

3xtreme LAN Eleven registrations open  [ Comments (37) ] Created By: chewy 10:32 pm, 3/5/2006
Registrations have been open for just over 3 days now and the response has been great up to this point. Planning for this event is going fantastically and it is shaping up to be one of our best events yet; all we need is heaps of people to pack out the venue.
Tell all your mates; this is going to be a big one.

On another note, I have been reading your thoughts about the Frag-mentation competitions and as such there are two new polls up; so please go and make your vote count.

3xtreme LAN Eleven  [ Comments (153) ] Created By: chewy 10:31 pm, 13/4/2006
With the lack of our usual Easter event it has been pretty quiet around here; well its time to break the silence. I am pleased to announce 3xtreme LAN Eleven, schedules for July 8th and 9th; so put it in your calendars and tell all your friends, this event will be bigger and better than ever.

This event we have teamed up with Frag-mentation who will be running some great competitions at the event. In addition to this we will be running our large organised games but this time there will be an interesting twist.

In addition to our July event we have two more events scheduled for later in the year.

We are yet to work out a timeline for registrations, confirmations and seat bookings; once we do we will get the info up as quick as possible.

3xtreme LAN 10 is over  [ Comments (26) ] Created By: rocket 2:59 pm, 11/12/2005
Wow, what an awesome LAN.

3xtreme LAN 10 marked 3xtreme's first foray into double digits (10), its second event with its fully-managed gigabit network and hopefully the final small event.

Outside the weather was balmy and the sun shone down on a great LAN. Many things will be remembered about this LAN - glow sticks, old 80s music and especially choonga's remix done brilliantly in windows media player!!!!

It's great to have a community LAN where everyone knows each other. That's what 3xtreme has turned into over the years. The admins enjoy the small LANs even though they take the same amount of work as the larger ones.

I'd like to thank KA Technologies for once again being "there like shareware"! Thanks to everyone for coming along and making our turnout pretty good!!! Especially the personalities that made the LAN great (apparently jomo has a fan club now. - and sorry about the lack of dancing comp shogunx!)

Our next event is either going to be in April/May during the commonwealth games (if we can get the power equipment) or else it'll be in June/July. We'll be running a 250-player LAN with an expanded gigabit network!

We hope to see you there.

Until next we meet.. thanks once again for coming to 3xtreme! :)

3xtreme LAN TEN OMG!!!  [ Comments (43) ] Created By: rocket 2:46 am, 7/11/2005
We've finally announced it!

3xtreme LAN 10 will be running in December on the 10th and 11th, providing EVERY SINGLE PLAYER with a gigabit network connection and bringing the same great sponsors you've come to expect including KA Technologies.

This event will also sport competitions and decent prizes, and plenty of people who actually play games.. So make sure you're there, cause there's bound to be heaps of Call of Duty 2, Serious Sam 2, FEAR, Q4 and plenty of other games on offer.

On a side note, this lan marks our first foray into double digits!

Registrations will open early in the week, so watch this space.

3 big game releases in only a few days  [ Comments (28) ] Created By: rocket 12:53 pm, 29/9/2005
OK so.. for those of us owning at least a silver edition copy of HL2, we got to take a first peek at Day of Defeat: Source. I'm guessing you've all played it a little bit by now and had a chance to experience it.

Not only that but the Call of Duty 2 demo is now out as well, and so is the serious sam 2 demo. Weighing in at 650mb for CoD2 and 250mb for SS2, I'm going to have to wait until I get home from holidays to try them out..

To those that have played these big name games, what's your opinion? Will they rock or will they be flops? :P

Website downtime  [ Comments (4) ] Created By: rocket 11:39 pm, 28/9/2005
Over the weekend we experienced some major downtime. This was very bad for us as we were unable to put up the webcam and were almost unable to retrieve the contents of the database for the LAN.

We'd like to apologise (again) for the downtime and thank Zardoz and chewy for (hopefully more than temporarily) fixing the issues. Yoyo is back on its legs again.

Ok guys, here is the timelapse footage of before, during and after the lan.

For those that didn't notice, there was a webcam tapped to ceiling in the admin area with a very long usb cable connecting to my box.

Its quite large so its split up over 3 files. One for each day.

3xtreme LAN 9 over  [ Comments (28) ] Created By: rocket 11:56 pm, 25/9/2005
Well!! 3xtreme LAN Nine is over, and what a great LAN it was. With a single hall and a new gigabit network, every seat was taken. The weather outside helped keep the hall from getting too hot (for a change). Despite a Steam update going out early on Saturday morning before the event, the LAN saw a surprising amount of gaming. Once everyone had their Steam updated we were able to successfully run the CS competition.

We hope you all enjoyed the hub throwing competition and all the other comps we ran - the results will be up on the website very soon.

A big thanks to KA Technologies, for supplying us with their products for the prizes, thanks to GSkill for supplying us with lanyards for our tags, and a big thanks to everyone who came along and made the first 3xtreme LAN with gigabit so successful. (That means you!)

I personally want to take some time and thank the admins (in no particular order) :

* chewy
* headexplodes
* geniesis
* Sniper
* CapeHorn
* G`Dave
* Viper
* PsychoBrat
* MagiAthena (who, while not an admin, gets an honorable mention for his hours of volunteer work)

From the website, to the internal web system, to the barcode system, to the Internet access, to the gigabit network, to the power, to the cabling, to the table layout/seat bookings, to the audio/PA/music system, to the webcam (timelapse movie will be uploaded to the site soon!), to the photos, to the hub throwing, even to keeping the bins from getting too full... you all worked very hard to organise and run the LAN! Cheers guys, and here's hoping there are many more great lans in the future...

3xtreme LAN Ten is coming up, possibly in summer or possibly easter 2006. If we are going to run an event in summer it will most likely be in early December, and it'll make 2005 our first year of having 4 lans. How many people are interested in an 3xtreme LAN in December?

Final post before the LAN!  [ Comments (8) ] Created By: rocket 12:41 am, 23/9/2005
Well if you haven't confirmed yet you should know we're about to close confirmations! Make sure you're only confirming if you're definitely coming to the LAN.

It's time for another 3xtreme LAN, and this time it'll be GIGABIT!!! We've been looking over the new gear and you can rest assured it's got the right stuff.

We hope to see you bright and early Saturday morning. Don't forget, on the weekends Monash Uni is only accessible via the Southern (Wellington Rd) entrance. A map is available by clicking on this link:

http://lan3xtreme.ausgamers.com/images/event03/unimap.gif

As usual KATech will be at the LAN selling gigabit network equipment and food and drink.

They have also very kindly convinced Wolfclaw to donate us one of their dedicated gaming keyboards, so we'll be giving this away as a prize. They also have a demo model that you can take and try out on your own PC!

Read the comments for the less interesting stuff, such as: grand final, possible hub throwing contest v.2, and public servers.

Can't wait to see you on Saturday!

Website issues  [ Comments (12) ] Created By: rocket 11:24 pm, 18/9/2005
OK Some of you may have noticed that the website occasionally doesn't load, this is related to problems with the server we host the site on. This server's name is Yoyo. It got its name because the previous machine called Yoyo was constantly going up and down.

(The old Yoyo was slow, and got replaced by the machine we're hosted on now)

I guess it's nice to know that this Yoyo is living up to its reputation, however it's not normally like this and the admins are in the process of fixing it.

We apologise for any inconvenience it has caused. We will endeavour to have the issues fixed as soon as possible. In the meantime please bear with us.

Day of Defeat: Source Pre-loading  [ Comments (4) ] Created By: rocket 12:36 pm, 17/9/2005
Just a quick warning to all Steam users, that DoD: Source won't be released until after the LAN is over.
Release is 8:00AM Tuesday Sept 27th (our time).

To avoid wasting your internet quota on preloading it during the LAN, make sure you pause it, or finish preloading before you take your PC to the LAN.

Cheers!

3xtreme LAN Announces: GIGABIT NETWORK!  [ Comments (29) ] Created By: rocket 7:33 pm, 9/9/2005
Remember that surprise we had for you a while back? Well we can unveil it now!

Drumroll please, it's:

A 100% GIGABIT NETWORK!!!!

What does this mean? It means no more clogged network, no more waiting forever for downloads, and no more laggy games. This means you'll be able to spend more time gaming at the LAN!

Not only that, but the equipment we have allows us to provide high-bandwidth links between tables - so no-one can ruin your networked LAN experience.

This equipment will be at all future events. So, when you want to go to a quality LAN, you know where to be - 3xtreme LAN. There's no need to go to a more expensive LAN with a slower network! - we've got it all.

This equipment has been kindly sold to us by Netgear, who manufacture the GS724T switch which so wonderfully fulfills our needs. If you were at the last LAN you'd have spotted our test switch at the front of the hall, acting as part of the core of the network. It's quite a capable piece of equipment.

Internet access

The internet access SHOULD be there this LAN as well - it'll be full net access with a download limit. Expect an increase in quota this LAN.

Thanks everyone for being so loyal to us all these years. 3xtreme LAN is where it's at!

Stay tuned for more info on competitions/prizes too.

3xtreme LAN Nine!  [ Comments (25) ] Created By: rocket 7:15 pm, 25/8/2005
Registrations are now open for 3xtreme LAN Nine. Please head over to the register page and register if you wish to attend!

http://extremelan.net/index.php?page=register

Event details:

Venue: Monash University, Clayton campus, Building 60, Room EH4 (Engineering exam halls)
Date: 10am 24th September - 2pm 25th September
Cost: Cheaper than other LANs at $25
Size: 130 players (to be confirmed)

As usual, there will be food available at the event, as well as a pizza run.

We endeavour to get the pizza run and competitions running on time this time around, which involves educating everyone on how to place orders and register for competitions. We don't want a re-enactment of last time, whereby everything ran up to 2 hours late!

For those that have been before, we hope you're looking forward to another 3xtreme LAN.
For those that haven't, welcome to the way Lanning should be!

Respect is everything!  [ Comments (27) ] Created By: rocket 11:58 am, 20/8/2005
Hi everyone,

By now some of you may have noticed that you have a respect rating to the left of your name.

So what is this fabled respect?

It's our karma mechanism. We'll increase it if you're good, and decrease it if you're bad. What this means is, depending on your behaviour on the forums, whether you help out packing up after the LAN, etc., you can qualify for earlier registration for the lan, among other benefits.

If you have a positive respect score, head over to the registration page and see if you see anything there.

Registration will become available to everyone during the next 7 days.

And remember, respect is everything.

ps. Next 3xtreme there should be a nice surprise which we wish we could announce right now. Deals are still at negotiation stage.
Here's a hint, it's something that everyone can enjoy!

Feedback request  [ Comments (17) ] Created By: rocket 12:42 pm, 28/6/2005
Thanks to everyone who came to the LAN.

We need as much feedback as possible to understand what we can do better next time around; so please post in the forums and tell us what you thought, what was done well and badly, what you'd like to see added to the LAN experience and what you'd like to see removed. We admins have a certain perspective on what the LAN should be, and sometimes it's not quite what the players want.

So please head over to the forums and put your ideas to us!

3xtreme LAN 8 Wrap-up  [ Comments (11) ] Created By: rocket 1:03 am, 28/6/2005
Wow! What a fantastic weekend!

3xtreme LAN Winter Extravaganza, 3xtreme LAN's first event over 250 players in size, was a LAN event on June 25th and 26th, 2005. Players braved the wind and the chilly temperatures to attend, combining heat from all their PCs to keep the hall toasty and warm. While outside the weather was cold and windy, inside it was the perfect temperature for gaming - and things heated up.

To celebrate the release of EA's Battlefield 2, we had the first ever LAN-based 64-player Battlefield 2 game. All 64 players had their retail copy of the game for the "admins vs. players" match which was won hands-down by the admins and their team!

The public Battlefield 2 retail server stayed at 20 people playing for the entire LAN, from start to finish.

More generally, competitions ran surprisingly smoothly - including the hub throwing competition. Much fun was had by all, and the winners received prizes donated very kindly by our sponsors.

EA Games, being the champions they are, supplied us with 6 copies of BF2 to give away to the winners of the BF2 multiplayer demo competition. A big thankyou goes to them for that. Thanks also to Crucial Paradigm for once again supplying us with some web hosting packages to give away. A big thankyou is also in order for KA Technologies, Powercolor, Vantec, Coolermaster and all our other sponsors for supplying their fantastic hardware to give away to you guys, along with some awesome ball point pens!

I've put in almost 150 hours of work to get this LAN to happen, and I'm glad to see it went so well. The new intranet and internet systems worked well and will be used again next time. Please post with your feedback in the 3xtreme LAN 8 Forum if you've got anything to offer.

Next 3xtreme we're going to surprise you, it might be a big surprise but it might not be! You'll need to come to the LAN to find out!

Thanks for coming to 3xtreme - we'll see you at the next LAN. Meanwhile, go play some BF2 or CS or whatever your chosen game.

BF2 delivery delayed  [ Comments (7) ] Created By: chewy 6:42 pm, 22/6/2005

The delivery from EA has been delayed, at this stage untill tomorrow morning.

Battlefield 2 Demo Released!  [ Comments (34) ] Created By: rocket 9:37 am, 11/6/2005
The BF2 demo was released this morning while we were all asleep. I've been scouring the net for a review or at least some opinions but I can't find any just yet.

If you want to grab a copy of the demo, do yourself a favour and don't put up with slow downloads from EA or Gamespot.

Download link 1 (Ausgamers): http://www.ausgamers.com/files/details/html/17047
Download link 2 (Gamearena): http://www.gamearena.com.au/files/details/html/17047
Download link 3 (Internode): http://games.internode.on.net/?page=filelist&filedetails=1461
Download link 4 (via BitTorrent): http://www.filerush.com/download.php?target=Battlefield_2_Demo.exe

Hopefully tonight I'll be booking a 3-hour slot on a Gamearena server for the 3xtreme LAN community. If GA don't open bookings by tonight then we may have to look into other options!

Now, go download BF2 and get your fix. That is an order.

Battlefield 2 at 3xtreme LAN 8  [ Comments (23) ] Created By: Sniper 5:43 pm, 7/6/2005
23rd of June is the new official release date as per EA Games Stock available to stores. This has been confirmed to be by EA Games.

Katech will be selling BF2 during the LAN and are trying their hardest to get you the best price we can.

RRP is $99

The big chains are selling pre-release for $89.95 which they will definately be matching.
But for 3xtreme LAN Players and members

$88.00 for extreme Lan members
$85.00 for extreme LAN prepaid players

Pre-orders through Katech as well as bundled prepaid tickets with BF2 will be on sale on www.katech.com.au in the next day or so. The more orders - the more we can go to EA with in terms of a bulk discount for the Extreme Community. Happy

I would like to encourage everyone to put their orders in ASAP as this Friday 10th they will organising first batch of preorders. After that they will have to wait and confirm if preorders are still possible (as they don't want to sell any pre-orders that wont be available on the first day -23rd)

If you are an existing prepaid player just order the standard product and leave notes with your order details and player name - then they will adjust your invoice to only pay the $85.00

KATech can also ship this to you so it will arrive on the 23rd at your door OR you can pick it up from them on the 23rd or even midnight on the 22nd!

Extreme Lan 8: Possibility of having a band play.  [ Comments (43) ] Created By: mannyg 6:20 pm, 19/4/2005
G'day guys, MannyG here again.

I have come to put a question forward to you all. Basically, for the last few LANs, we have been toying with the idea of having a band play at Extreme Lan. Now, with our bigger setup and more space, this is becoming more of a possibility.

There has been a bit of talk lately about having my band play there for Extreme 8. Before you make up your mind, I'll give you a bit of background about the band.

Our name, (I kid you not...) is "ASL". No I didn't come up with the name, I'm the newest member, and just so you know the lead singer is a Network Admin, so I gather thats where it came from :P We are a 5 piece coverband who play your typical rock/pub songs. Anything from old rock to newer stuff.

If we were to play, it'd probably be 1 set consisting of about 10-15 songs. Not sure where we would slot it in. Perhaps after the prize ceremony, who knows.

Anyways, I want your opinions on it. Chewy has put a poll up, but please post in this thread as to why/why not having a band at Extreme.

Cheers,

Manny

Feedback results  [ Comments (15) ] Created By: rocket 1:28 am, 15/4/2005
Thanks to everyone who contributed some feedback this time around. Your voice has been heard!

We will continue to do everything that made 3xtreme LAN 7 so successful.

HOWEVER, Next 3xtreme we WILL do the following things:

* Projector at the front centre of the hall displaying game servers and LAN info!
You will be able to access this system so you can tell people about your game server on the projector.

* Better-run competitions!
And we'll have some wicked prizes too - more on this in the weeks to come!

* Another FREE BBQ!! - bigger and more bread!!!!
Complete with MannyG's parents, MummyG and DaddyG!

* Many new features on the intranet web site at the LAN
Including a new chat facility and a competition bracket system, so you can see how the competition unfolds.

* Little prizes to throw out to people
Remember the Netcomm couches a few LANs ago? They were mobile phone couches and everyone loved them. We'll try and get enough stuff for everyone to have a souvenir!

* A relaxation area at the back of the hall!
We've allocated a darkened relaxation area at the back of the hall for Xbox, PS2, Projector and DVDs. This will be a place for you to go to chill out a bit. Perhaps to wait while Windows re-installs!

* Random competitions!
I have no idea about what we'll do, but you can be sure it'll be fun! And yes we'll also be running the karaoke comp :)

And the final one is a definite maybe:
* STEAM ACCESS DURING THE LAN
If you don't know, Steam is the new way to play Counter-strike. If we get Steam access there's no need to mess with Steam's offline mode to play Steam games at the LAN. We are considering a small once-off charge if your Steam needs to update. We have to pay for our internet use!

BBQ Donations have been given to charity  [ Comments (17) ] Created By: rocket 1:00 am, 6/4/2005

Comments & Feedback  [ Comments (31) ] Created By: rocket 11:37 am, 5/4/2005
So far we've had comments for improvement in several different directions. It's best if we get your feedback now while your mind's still fresh with ideas for the lan.

At 3xtreme LAN 7 we had 15 playing Quake 3, 30 playing UT2004 instagib, 8 playing Call of Duty and several maxed-out Raven Shield servers. That's a decent effort - but once again, we can do better! Everyone has to work as a team and play the same games for us all to have fun!

People seemed quite happy with the prize ceremony which was good. We've still got some buckets so you may see this system again.

Among the things that need improvement next 3xtreme are competitions and "LOGs" (large organised games). Basically we still need to increase the amount of gaming. We are considering ways to encourage more people to play games. It's getting harder as the number of available games increases, especially since some of them are very similar. Although it's hard for one game to stand out in the current climate I really hope to see Battlefield 2 become the next big PC gaming blockbuster. Hopefully it'll be out before the Winter Extravaganza... cos it supports 64 players!

I'd like to have a BF2 server which knows your ranking just like Internet servers will. This way if you're a die-hard BF2 player there's no excuse to stay home! You will always get to be Commander 'cos you'll have the highest rank.

Like I said, tell us what you want to see extreme lan become cause it's not for the admins - it's for the people.

Please, if you've never posted in our forum, start posting now! Some of the best ideas ever sound crazy when people first hear them.

And to our forum regulars, make the new people welcome :)

3xtreme LAN 7 is over!!!  [ Comments (14) ] Created By: rocket 1:51 am, 5/4/2005
Wow, well I don't know about you but I had an incredible LAN!

3xtreme LAN Seven was a LAN event run on the 2nd and 3rd of April by our enthusiastic team of admins, with the help of our new team of promoters and one of our sponsors KA Technologies. Almost 250 gamers braved a heat-wave to turn up for the event, and for those that played games it was incredible fun.

Our sponsors really came through for us at 3xtreme LAN Seven. A big shout out goes to EA Games for supplying us with a whole bunch of posters and 12 awesome games. Crucial Paradigm Business Solutions were fantastic, coming to the party with $1184 in prizes, in the form of 7 web hosting packages. KA Technologies and Powercolor brought us a new video card, and lots of cooling equipment to give to you guys. Thanks to all our sponsors, we couldn't do it without your support!

Competitions were well-run on the whole, and the final results are on their way. The respective clans got their prizes out of buckets, and were very happy with them! Thanks to everyone who ran a comp, but mainly Manny!

A big thank-you from 3xtreme LAN goes out to everyone who made the effort and came down to the LAN despite the extremely hot weather. A big thankyou to KA Tech, not only for their sponsorship but their support and help in making 3xtreme happen. Another thankyou goes to our promoters, and also to Jomo for really contributing to the LAN. Our promoters helped get people in the door. Huge thanks to everyone who helped clean up at the end, particularly G`Dave! Finally, thanks to all the admins who put in a stellar effort and made the LAN happen, from comps to power to network to servers to table layout to the pool table to the audio system. We've got webcam footage archived until 9:30pm on Sunday - and we didn't even get out of the hall until 10:00pm! What were YOU doing at 10:00pm on Sunday after the LAN?

Anyway on to the memories..... I am sure going to take a whole lot of awesome memories away from that LAN - things like the final match in the UT Onslaught comp which [teh] won in the final round by a hair's breadth (5% to 0%). But not just that, during the match there were the golden moments, like when I was squashed from high above by mojo's manta and all I could do was watch it loom above and prepare for pain... the guy vanguard hit in the face with a redeemer, the karaoke comp (what about me???), the Q3 comp which I ended up winning (oops), to name just a few!

I'm sure you have lots of fun memories from this LAN. Please, share!

That's all for 3xtreme LAN Seven. Please feel free to give us some feedback because the Winter Extravaganza is coming up (read the back of your tag!) and we can't always tell what we're doing right and wrong. We need you to help us out and tell us what worked and what didn't!

Thanks again to everyone whose combined effort allowed us all to have a really relaxed weekend of network gaming.

NOW GO POST IN THE FORUMS!

3xtreme LAN Hopefully-final Update  [ Comments (13) ] Created By: rocket 12:50 am, 30/3/2005
Alright!

Time to go to 3xtreme LAN! I sure hope you're pumped cause this one's going to be big. The LAN starts at 10am sharp, and it's $25. Turning up earlier = being closer to the front of the queue = you getting a better seat.

Map: http://lan3xtreme.ausgamers.com/images/event03/unimap.gif

For more info, please see the Lan Guide page.
Lan Guide: http://www.extremelan.net/index.php?page=languide

Make sure you've registered. Registrations will be closed at 8:00PM on the 30th.
Please also make sure your seat booking group is complete; Seat bookings will close on the 31st at 9:00PM. You can only see the seat booking system if you're confirmed, and confirmations close at 8:00PM on the 31st.

If you're prepaying you'll need to go to the rear entrance where you'll find me waiting to receive your printed ticket.

Since the turnout is lower than planned, you or others are welcome to turn up as a player no matter what. Don't worry about being on the waiting list. If you're not confirmed or not registered then bear in mind that you'll be waiting behind the people who did register. This is just because we have to put you in the player list manually which will take a little longer.

On the other hand, please confirm so we have an accurate idea of who's going!

If you have any questions in the lead-up to the LAN, you can call me on 0422 299 750. If you are wondering if there'll be room then don't worry - we'll have heaps.

Don't forget that as usual, seat bookings are forfeit at 12pm sharp. If one of your people need to turn up after this you can send an email to me to make sure we know.

Here's a short list of the activities available at the LAN!

See http://rocket.extremelan.net:81/~rocket/extreme/extreme7timetable.xls for more info on the event timetable.

And don't forget that we've got in excess of $2000 worth of prizes available at the event from our great sponsors, including EA Games, KA Tech and Crucial Paradigm Business Solutions. Kudos go to all our sponsors for everything they do to make things great for you, our customer.

SEE YOU THERE!!!!

WTFBBQ?  [ Comments (17) ] Created By: mannyg 3:22 pm, 29/3/2005
Not quite, but how about an Extreme Lan 7 BBQ... and a FREE one at that, and that's the best type of BBQ you can get.

That's right my pretties, because we are so nice and stuff, your friendly Admins have decided to throw together a free BBQ for all you hungry gamers courtesy of us, with a little help from my Mum and Dad (from hereon known as MummyG and DaddyG) ^___^

It's gonna happen at about 4-5pm, so for you lanners who don't want a pizza run or just feel like a snag or 2, MummyG/DaddyG and myself will be throwing a few hundred sausages on the bbq (its an OMGWTFBBQ :D) to feed you scavengers. And by scavengers I mean lovely lovely people.

We've had suggestions that possibly a gold coin donation is in order, what I'll do is setup a bucket at the BBQ and if you feel like chucking some change in there, it'll go to a certain Children's Aid fund for the victims of the tsunami. This is totally optional.

So there we have it kids, be there at about 4/5pm for a free feed :D

Cheers,

Manny

First round of sponsors announced  [ Comments (10) ] Created By: rocket 12:53 am, 4/3/2005
Hi everyone,

Thought I'd take a break from sleeping to announce our sponsors for this 3xtreme.

3xtreme LAN will be run in conjunction with Monash IT Society in an effort to strengthen ties with the university that provides our great venue. It should also put us more in touch with Monash students.

Note that this is only the first-run sponsor announcement; there's more on the way. Prizes are being negotiated so hold onto your hats :)

OK.. so the list so far is as follows:

* KA Technologies will have a stall at the back of the hall. They'll be selling food, drinks and PC parts. (including hard drives)

* Crucial Paradigm will be providing us with some web hosting prizes, for all those clans eager to get their websites off their ISP's webspace

* Finally, Dynamic Billiards are yet again providing us with a pool table for the duration of the LAN. These guys are fantastic. The next time you or someone you know buys a pool table, go buy it from them.

More sponsors, and more prizes, will be announced over the coming week.

If you haven't registered yet, what are you waiting for... head over to the registration page and register now!

Feedback results  [ Comments (24) ] Created By: rocket 3:16 pm, 1/10/2004
Thanks to everyone who contributed some feedback this time around. Your voice has been heard!

Next 3xtreme we WILL do the following things:

* Outside sports:
Possibly cricket, rugby, footy, frisbee, soccer or anything else, admins/gimps will be umpiring

* More LOGs (large organised games):
99% of the funny memories of last 3xtreme were from playing in either our Call of Duty or Joint Ops games.

We'll be holding polls to determine what games people want LOGs for, closer to the date of next 3xtreme.

Next 3xtreme we'll announce all our planned LOGs and tell you what you'll need to install AT THE START OF THE LAN - so you're ready to jump into the game straight away.

* A bigger and better karaoke comp
So polish up on your singing skillz.

* More variety in the music on the PA system:
Techno, trance, dance, garage, speed garage, jungle, rave, goa, psy-trance, psy-psy-trance, pseudo-trance, pop-trance. Just kidding.. We'll try and please everyone with a good mix of lots of genres.

And here comes the big one..
* FOUR INSANE EVENTS PER YEAR!
3xtreme LAN Summer will be our 120-player summer LAN in December/January (this will start in 2006), we will continue to run our traditional 250-player events in April and September and we will also now run an all-new 350-player Winter extravaganza. Note that these are still working titles.

As you can see, we're working hard to make 3xtreme the very best LAN Melbourne's community has to offer.

We'll see you at our next event.

Comments & Feedback  [ Comments (17) ] Created By: rocket 6:56 pm, 27/9/2004
So far we've had comments for improvement in several different directions. It's best if we get your feedback now while your mind's still fresh with ideas for the lan. I think that announced games was a very successful thing. We had 30 playing United Offensive, and 29 playing Joint Ops. That's a pretty decent effort - but we can still do better!

We're looking into getting a band up on stage during the LAN. Also, playing games with teams of admins vs players would be wicked. Like I said, tell us what you want to see extreme lan become cause it's not for the admins - it's for the people.

Please, if you've never posted in our forum, start posting now! Some of the best ideas ever sound crazy when people first hear them.

Extreme Lan Six: ITS OVER!  [ Comments (29) ] Created By: rocket 4:53 pm, 27/9/2004
Starting at 10am last Saturday morning, Monash Uni's exam halls were taken over by 250 hardcore gamers from all over Melbourne who brought their PC's along to the hall for an entire weekend of intense networked gaming.

Blah Blah blah.. we all know how awesome extreme lan was! If you weren't there, you missed a classic lan.

I will be taking lots of memories away from this LAN. Capehorn fixing the power, the network not working until midday and this time it was only half my fault, the karaoke contest which was a competition to see who could sing the best - but which turned into a freestyling contest when one of jixor's mates showed up and showed off his rapping talent - we've got it on film. The UT2k4 comp which died in the ass, Call of Duty (I missed it cause of ut2k4.. doh!), Joint Ops on Sunday arvo (what's the parachute button guys??? ALT-F4 rocket!), finding out that "Port" the footy team refers to Port Adelaide not Port Melbourne, and the unclaimed pizzas. The Q3 comp - especially watching the playoff for 2nd (that was a great match guys), Shonkyman's incredible server collection, the prize presentations (is Jesus here) - and sorry about the lack of a case mod comp guys... the list goes on. I'll post some other people's memories in the comments - check it out!

Admins have now finally finished everything off for the weekend, having dropped off the stage and power gear. What a marathon weekend.

Well! Where would we be without our wonderful sponsors. If you've won something at the LAN it was provided by a sponsor. If you wanted to nick a poster - that poster belonged to a sponsor. Hehehe.. no poster for you. They're fantastic and I'd like to extend a big thanks to all of them. Thanks atomic, OCZ, Powercolor, Everglide, Sparkle, Coolermaster, Sunbeam, Dynamic Billiards, and last but not least, KA Technologies. Warm fuzzy feelings all around.

Shonkyman and crew have been awarded lifetime gold memberships to extreme lan - you deserve some recognition for all the effort you've put in over the years to make the LAN truly awesome. This will grant these guys free entry to extreme lan forever. And we're not going to make the membership invalid by changing our name!

CONGRATS EVERYONE ON ANOTHER AWESOME EXTREME LAN!

Final LAN Update  [ Comments (15) ] Created By: rocket 12:15 pm, 23/9/2004
Planning for the LAN is pretty much finished and we're all pumped up and enthusiastic about Saturday - as Big Kev says, I'm excited!

If you need directions for how to get to the LAN, you'll find Monash Uni's Clayton campus on map 70 of the Melways. Failing that, search for wellington road over at http://www.street-directory.com.au/ .

Once you make it to the campus, you'll need to enter via the Southern (Wellington Road) entrance to the campus, go straight ahead at the roundabout and take a left onto Union Loop Road.

Here's a pretty map to help you find us:
http://lan3xtreme.ausgamers.com/images/event03/unimap.gif

Traffic in the union loop will be a bit hectic, so please try to clear the area nice and quickly once you've put all your gear down. Get a friend to watch it if needed.

Doors open at 10am on Saturday morning. As usual, there'll probably be a big queue by then, so if you turn up earlier you'll get a better spot in line. Prepaids will be admitted first; they are also welcome to jump the queue if they turn up late, but you should still wait your turn behind whoever's currently being admitted. We've been working hard at making checkin as efficient as possible, so as long as everyone plays nice, everyone should be in the door by 11am.

Prize presentation is Sunday at 2pm, if you're not there for your prize you won't get it. Of course, you don't have to stay at the LAN; you can come back at 2pm Sunday and get your prize then. Unfortunately we can't give away any prizes any sooner than this, sorry guys.

With that all said, we the admins would like to formally thank everyone in advance for making 3xtreme lan the great lan it is. I hope to see YOU at extreme!

Oh, and I bet you can't guess what our theme is going to be :)

Yep, real life pool on a real pool table.

The pool table has been confirmed for extreme lan!

Some small comps for when everyone's busy reinstalling their OS:

StarCraft competition:

Remember this game, I think most of you were too young back then to know but it's a classic.

Jedi Knight 2 nostalgia competition

3xtreme lan's first ever comp. Kudos to Madd Dog whose skill with yellow/red stances beat out my blue stance saber spam in the final back in 2002, but only just.

Registration update  [ Comments (4) ] Created By: chewy 9:25 am, 6/9/2004
The LAN is rapidly approaching and confirmations and seat bookings have now opened, in order to attend the LAN you MUST confirm although booking a seat is optional but recommended if you have a group you want to sit together with.

KA Technologies have informed me that all the prepaid tickets have been sold and will be emailed out shortly; all those who have purchased tickets do not be alarmed if you are not listed on this site as prepaid however it should be updates soon.

Prepaid tickets and You  [ Comments (20) ] Created By: rocket 12:29 am, 29/7/2004
Just a quick message about the rego system this time round, any places available to prepaids (ie. places 1 to 100) that aren't sold will be automatically given to normal registered players. Which means that, even though if you register now you're in the waiting list, you'll most likely be pushed back into the player list if we don't sell all the prepaid tickets that are available.

So for example, if we sell 86 prepaid tickets, everyone on the waiting list up to #14 will be put on the player list in time for the LAN.

Of course, if you want to guarantee your entry, you can prepay, meaning you pay for your entry now, jump up the list and can get into the LAN that much quicker. Check out KA Tech's website (the link's on the right) for locations you can purchase your ticket...

3xtreme LAN Six update  [ Comments (40) ] Created By: chewy 5:39 pm, 24/7/2004
Planning for our sixth event is coming along nicely and we will be opening registrations for the event at 8PM Sunday (tomorrow). KA Technologies will be selling pre-paid tickets at the computer swap meets from this weekend onward and on their website.

Tomorrow KA Technologies will be at the Kingston computer swap meet, and tickets will be on sale on their website at all times that their not at the swap meet. The KA Technologies website can be reached by clicking their logo to the right.

Pre-paid positions are limited to 100 in order to avoid people being pushed off the player list as more people pre-pay.

As with last event, the seat bookings will be done in a group-booking fashion, allowing players to specify a group of people they wish to sit with but not the exact position of the group, the position of the group in the hall is decided on by the administration team.

As you may have noticed, the poll script on this web site is now working so please vote on whatever questions we put on it.

3xtreme five wrapup  [ Comments (25) ] Created By: rocket 1:43 pm, 5/4/2004
What a bloody awesome LAN!!!!

3xtreme ran its 5th event on the weekend, catering for 250 awesome gamers. While the network had its occasional hiccups (we had to re-crimp a few network cables here and there) overall everything went to plan. I'm sure there's lots of stories of funny stuff that happened at 3xtreme, so feel free to share them.

Competitions were run smoothly as always by MannyG with his band of assistants - there's already some stuff he's posted in the forums about the comps :)

Sponsorship as usual was fantastic, with EA Games providing us with copies of BF:Vietnam and NFS:Underground. Aussie Disposals provided the "18 x 24 metre" camo net - much <3 to them for that (they sell sweet chairs and beds.. worth looking at if you're a regular lanner). Netcomm (not netgear :) ) Supplied the network, I supplied the crappy network cable. If only cable was being sold at the LAN... bit of an in joke that one! Dynamic Billiards made the extra effort and provided us with a pool table and the prize of a cue for the pool comp, <3 to them too.

From 3pm on Friday until 10pm on Sunday (minus 6 hours of sleep in my case) the admins were hard at work setting up, running and packing up the LAN for you guys. My thanks goes to the rest of the guys on our team - you do an awesome job.

Thanks go to the admins people don't see - Capehorn, Viper and headexplodes. They took care of the stuff that's important but subtle. Thanks also to our honourary assistants - especially Greven, G'Dave, Crab, Foo, psychobrat and everyone else who hung around and helped. Even the people who only wound up one power or network cable - you know who you are :)

KA Tech were fantastic as usual, taking care of the supply of food and drink. We'll be preselling tickets next time through them at the swap meet and also online. If you don't know their website yet.. click on their logo :P
KA Tech actually do a lot behind the scenes - much more than take care of selling food and computer parts for us. They've been instrumental in a lot of the cool stuff we had at the LAN - they are the ones we have to thank for Netcomm supplying all that network gear, they helped us organise the sponsorship from Aussie Disposals and they came up with the idea of prepaid tickets. Thanks guys, you really helped us out.

Thanks to everyone who brought stuff to the LAN - servers, network gear etc. ShonkyMan and co, you guys brought the majority of the public servers - even if they didn't get used. GG guys. We really appreciate it. Also thanks Xitation for the UT2k4 servers :)

I'm bloody exhausted! :)

After we finished packing up at about 10pm last night, I went home and fell asleep pretty much straight away. I've only just become awake enough to post a wrap-up here :)

I don't know about anyone else, but I had a hell of a lot of fun at extreme lan 5. I have many great memories of this LAN, including the "Noll-off" (much <3 to Crab, dero, mesnee and everyone else, who sung "what about me" and actually didn't sound that bad), visits to the lan from my parents and their gobsmacked friends, playing TrackMania (<3 Superbeast, dero, Kane), people asking me whether I truly needed 4 monitors on my desk, Steak on a scooter in the breezeway (wheeeee), the lethal air hockey table, the Quake 3 comp (GG guys), War3 corridors (<3 CoBy, Azrael, Belial), Netcomm's supplying us with gigabit network gear and the crappy cables I crimped that let it all down (stop leeching!!! :P). If you've read this far I'm sure you have lots of your own memories too.

We loved it, and we hope you loved it too. If you weren't there then you'll have a chance to be there next time in 3 or 6 months.

Thanks for coming guys, it wouldn't be a LAN without everyone. You really make 3xtreme the awesome LAN it is.

We hope to see you there next time :)

3xtreme LAN Five - final update  [ Comments (6) ] Created By: rocket 1:06 pm, 2/4/2004
w00t!!!!112!@@

3xtreme lan tomorrow :)

This is the final update before the LAN. If you know someone with a question answered here (ie. parking, when to turn up etc.), please tell them about this page (or tell them the answer from here).

To everyone wondering, my advice is to turn up bright and early in order to get a good spot in the queue. If you are prepaid we'll be letting you in first.

We will have 2 entrances to the LAN in order to get people in faster. The nearer of the 2 will be for confirmed players ONLY (ie. no prepaids!).

All going well, prepaids will get let in from 9:30 am onwards. SO - if you're prepaid, 9:30am is on time.

Prepaids who turn up later get to "jump the queue" - but only at the farther away of the 2 entrances to the LAN.

If you have a seat booking, please tell our ushers and they can direct you to your seats.

Please claim all the seats in your booking by putting the chairs on top of the tables in the area you are claiming. Chairs that aren't on tables are fair game for people without a booking.

Seat bookings are forfeited at 12 pm SHARP. Any unclaimed seats in your booking are also forfeited at this time. There're a few exceptions to this rule as usual - those people know who they are.

To get into Monash you'll need to use the Main (Southern) entrance on Wellington Road. All other entrances are closed on the weekend.

http://lan3xtreme.ausgamers.com/images/event03/unimap.gif

Competition registrations need to be in by 12 for some of the comps. If you need to register for a competition please ask to use an admin's (or another player's) PC to do so.

If you're a long way away and don't want to risk being turned away at the door - give me a call on 0422 299 750!!
I'll tell you if it's worth coming along.

Can't wait to see you all at the LAN.

Security and patches  [ Comments (14) ] Created By: rocket 1:43 am, 29/3/2004
Take some time out from gaming this week to go download the latest updates to windows. Make sure your people do too.. we don't want another outbreak of blaster on our hands :)

Also.. since we're running CS 1.6 in non-steam mode (Manny can you fill us in on this?), apparently you need to jump on steam from home and get your CS patched up right to the latest patch to support LAN play.

There will be no internet connection at the LAN! So do your steam updates before you get there!

This has been a community service announcement. We do not encourage the kicking of possums, especially when they're still in the tree.

To everyone who's a little confused about when to turn up  [ Comments (16) ] Created By: rocket 12:58 pm, 28/3/2004
If you're prepaid then turn up to the LAN whenever. You'll be let in first.

If you're confirmed and on the playerlist (there shouldn't be anyone on the list who's unconfirmed since the bump) then turn up early to beat the other confirmed people. You'll be let in after the prepaids.

If you're on the waiting list but you're confirmed then turn up bright and early and you will probably find you get let in. Bear in mind though that everyone who's there by 10 and is on the list will be let in before you (but not everyone turns up by 10).

People on the waiting list who aren't confirmed.. sorry guys. We've got 300 combined confirms and prepaids. If you really want to get into the LAN you can ring me on 0422 299 750 after 10 and I'll tell you whether we're likely to fill up.

Aussie Disposals  [ Comments (23) ] Created By: rocket 5:23 pm, 27/3/2004
Hey everyone...

Lots of people have been speculating about Aussie Disposals' sponsorship.

Well.. we're not gunna tell you what it is, you'll just have to wait until the lan and find out.

^_^

Tickets sold out completely  [ Comments (19) ] Created By: rocket 2:58 pm, 27/3/2004
Hi guys.

There'll be no tickets for sale at the swap meet this Sunday. Registrations are closed. Confirmations are closed. We're sold out.

As it is, people who've been waiting to go to the lan for weeks have been getting pushed off the playerlist, for no reason other than some people (who may well have just decided they want to goto 3xtreme) gave us money in advance.

We have to make a decision about where to draw the line between allowing queue-jumpers and listening to the pleas of the people using the conventional system.

Once again all tickets to extreme lan are sold out. If you haven't already confirmed (waiting list or not) or prepaid you will very likely be turned away at the door.

Complaints, death threats etc. can be directed to my mobile phone on 0422 299 750.

Sorry guys, but we've only got so many seats. We can't just make more because more people want to go. We'd sure like to though.

List bump  [ Comments (22) ] Created By: rocket 10:21 am, 24/3/2004
Everyone who you know hasn't confirmed yet, get them to come to the site and confirm their registration - because we're going to "bump the list" very soon.

This basically means that unconfirmed people will go to the bottom of the list; it's another way we allow people on the waiting list who'll definitely be at the LAN to get in the list.

Seat bookings are up  [ Comments (12) ] Created By: rocket 10:15 am, 24/3/2004
OK guys, chewy's put the seat bookings up. Congratulations on an awesome coding effort on his part - he only just finished it last night :)

Make sure you get your people to add THEMSELVES. You can't add your people.

That again once more, your people will have to add themselves to your booking group.

We place booking groups. If you would like your group to be placed in a particular area of the LAN then please email me at extremelan.net (rocket to the left of the @)

Oh - and seat booking groups must have more than one person to get placed! Otherwise why bother booking a seat.. :p

Desert Combat and Vietnam  [ Comments (12) ] Created By: rocket 5:44 pm, 22/3/2004
OK. Here's the final word on the DC and Viet comps:

We're running both! :)

Seat bookings  [ Comments (14) ] Created By: rocket 11:58 pm, 21/3/2004
Seat bookings are definitely available and it'll be up soon. Note that your people will have to add themselves to the group and they have to be confirmed for the LAN.

And the MaNNyG said.. BAM!  [ Comments (26) ] Created By: rocket 11:30 pm, 21/3/2004
Hello children, I am Manny G. I am also known as Manny, Mangee or "that weird greek guy" :D

As some of you know I will be running the majority of the competitions at Extreme LAN 5 along with the help of a few admin's (<3<3) and this post is gonna go over a few of the larger competitions including rules, maps etc...

First of all: Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne 4v4 3Corridors Competition

Map: There has been a lot of talk about what map to use, I've finally decided to use a map that one of our fellow Lanner's has made (much thanks to Foo). The map is called "3xtreme Corridors 2.0" and can be downloaded @ http://phantoms.customer.netspace.net.au/3xtremeCorridors2.0.w3x

Format: 4 players per side. Dual bracket tourney styles. For a diagram of the layout please visit http://members.iinet.net.au/~ian_o/wc3%20corridors%20comp.JPG

Choosing the sides will be decided by coin toss or you can agree to choose.

Secondly: Counter-Strike 5v5 Competition

Format: Counterstrike 1.6 in Offline Mode will be used. I've been informed it’s legal and all that jazz so we will use it.

Rules: The Rule set used will be based on the MGL Rule set but modified for the use of the LAN. The short of it is that the MGL Server Config will be implemented to prevent people from using higher rates and interp etc. The only other real rule you need to know is about restarts and crashes etc.

If a player’s computer crashes out whilst playing, the team is entitled to a restart PROVIDING that no more than 4 rounds have been completed. If 4 rounds have been completed, the game is paused until the player rejoins and then the match continues. In the event of a server crashing resulting in everyone dropping, if more than 4 rounds have been played, everyone joins back in and the match continues from where it crashed however, every player has $4500.

The other rule is regarding Messagemode 1 speak. Each team has a captain, only he may use mm1 and it MUST be relevant to the game. Nothing like LOLZ TRIPLE NADE KILL and the like... any improper use of MM1 results in loss of a round.

Any queries about grey areas, please email me at toolgasm462@hotmail.com

Next, Battlefield 1942: Vietnam 6v6 Competition

Don't know what’s going on here, ask chewy ;)

We'll be the first LAN to have BF1942:Viet and we've got EA Games on board supplying some awesome prizes for the lan. Much <3 and applause all around to EA Games for being so awesome :)

Jedi Knight 2 Saber Duels:

See above

Pool Competition:

Now here is something I know about! Thanks to the lovely people at Dynamic Billiards, we will yet again have a pool table at Extreme LAN; and when there is pool there is Competitions!! (and crazy shots from Capehorn who nearly kills morph :D:D:D)

The format is yet to be decided, but most likely Double Elimination. There will be a $5 entry fee from each player to either a) be put into a kitty for winner to take all or b) pay for a cue from Dynamic Billiards in which the winner will receive.

Just a quick note, be nice to the table, its very expensive and we want it back with no felt ripped and shiz like that...

Cheaty CS:

This has rules??

Need For Speed Underground: Drifts/Drags etc...

This will be run by ^Sunrise on the day and most likely made up on the spot, talk to him on IRC for information :)

Unreal Tournament 2004: Onslaught

Now this is going to rock, the game is finally out and people will have the full version at the LAN. Hence, much onslaught is needed. It will be 6v6 going by Telstra Gamearena's rules running on
ONS-Torlan. If anyone would like other maps to be played please email me at the aforementioned address.

Quake 3 OSP Duels:

Speak to RockeT, he is quake3KNG!
(I sure am Manny. - ed)

OK this comp will be dual elimination on any map that is agreed to by both players. Note here that by starting the match you agree to play on that map. 10 minute duels, the recommended maps as always are ztn3tourney1, pro-q3tourney4, q3tourney2 (prot2 is GHEY) and pro-q3dm6. If both players really really want to play on dm17 (that space map everyone loves) then it's ok, but beware - anyone halfway decent at rail will own you sideways on that map.

Phew, I think that’s about it, stay tuned for prizes and shiz, and we do have a comp schedule which will be released shortly so you can see if you are triple booked or not

GLNHF dudes, see you at the LAN :)

Manny

A word on our registration system...  [ Comments (20) ] Created By: rocket 12:36 pm, 6/3/2004
If you want to go to 3xtreme LAN five, you have 2 options:

1. Visit the swap meet and find the KA Tech stall (hint: Look for the 3xtreme lan posters!) and pay $25. (ie. The same amount as the LAN costs on the door.)
Then on the day when you turn up you get to push to the front of the queue (it's expected to take over an hour to get everyone in at first) and you'll get the first pick of non-booked seats at the LAN.

Prepaid players will also get more prizes during our giveaway on Saturday night. (Note that competition prizes are presented on Sunday at 2pm)

2. Our alternative registration system is the same system used by every other LAN party in Victoria:
i. On a particular day, registration opens. This is when people register to say "I will probably be there." We are currently here.

ii. During the week before the LAN (in this case on or after the MONDAY before the weekend of 3xtreme lan five), people come back to the site and confirm their reigstration. Only confirm if you're definitely or almost definitely coming. This is when people say "I will definitely be there."

NOTE: If you need transport, ask in the forums or in IRC at #lan3xtreme on irc.oz.org. Chances are someone else will carpool with you.

iii. Turn up to the LAN and pay on the door.. and get ready to have an awesome time lanning :D

To register for 3xtreme LAN, please click on the 'register' link in the menu above.

Pre-purchased tickets  [ Comments (20) ] Created By: rocket 8:43 pm, 1/3/2004
Don't forget - you can pay for your ticket in advance in order to guarantee a seat! KA Technologies will be selling tickets at every Sunday swap meet leading up to the LAN.

* Malvern Town Hall
* Box Hill Town Hall
* Camberwell Town Hall
* and all the others.

Check out the scrolly banner on KA Tech's website ( http://www.katech.com.au ) for more info on where to go to get your ticket!

Some of the other cool stuff we will have at 3xtreme five  [ Comments (36) ] Created By: rocket 3:19 pm, 1/3/2004
* Pool table
* Air hockey table!
* KA Tech - selling food and drinks (for more info check out the forums)
* KA Tech will also be selling lots of hardware at the lan. Check out their website at http://www.katech.com.au/ and post in the forum for suggestions on what you want to see from them.
* Sleeping area
* Plenty of public servers for people who come to LANs to play GAMES!
* Special comps for prepaid ticket holders (if you've paid for your ticket and given us your login details you should have an account on the site.)

The state of comps  [ Comments (17) ] Created By: rocket 3:14 pm, 1/3/2004
There will be NINE huge comps at 3xtreme lan 5:

1. CS 1.5 - 5v5, usual rules apply
2. Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat
3. Warcraft 3: 3 Corridors! this one's a classic
4. Jedi Knight 2 sabre duels!
5. Pool competition (this time don't let manny take the title people!)
6. Cheaty CS - where firing out the back of your model is encouraged ^_^
7. Need For Speed Underground SIMULTANEOUS MULTIPLAYER drifting and drags
8. UT2k4: Onslaught mode (most likely this will only be the ut2k4 demo)
9. Quake 3 OSP Duels!!

NOTE: There'll be public servers up the whole lan for the above games (exluding pool.. of course) - especially Quake 3!

NOTE: People competing in the cheaty CS comp most likely won't be allowed to compete in the CS comp. This has come after some complaint by some vocal members of the community ;)

And for people asking about prizes, look for our prize list soon! But at the very least we've got a whole bunch of cool prizes being given away by KA Tech.

OH - and we've actually got a comp schedule this time, so everything actually will happen!
